Busy, busy, painting

Cute little shabby chic bench in blue.  This is the hot color this year, everyone is doing blue!!
Small black shutter cabinet made from recycled materials by J.D. Mack Crafts and of course, painted by 2 gals & a brush chalk paint powder!!
Painted this cabinet with a cool lime green for the back of the cabinet and then painted all around the edges with the same color paint, then it was waxed and painted again with an antique white and then distressed so the green would show through.
Tall black shutter cabinet painted the fabulous blue on the inside and then the entire cabinet was painted blue, then waxed, then painted black and distressed so the blue would show through.  Turned out great.

Custom orders painted with 2 gals & a brush

Custom orders by J.D. Mack Crafts are all painted with 2 gals & a brush chalk paint powder
These two photos were done with an antique white and a coat of light brown stain wax by Briwax
This piece was painted barn red and since it will take alot of abuse in a little boys room, we applied a coat of polyurethane to this piece
Barn wood coffee table painted with 2 gals & a brush chalk paint powder was done in black for the base and legs and the top was dry brushed with antique white and a coat of polyurethane was applied
Custom island built was done in barn red
 Custom hutch done in black
Another picture of the island also painted with our chalk paint powder.  You can turn any piece of furniture into a durable surface with 2 gals & a brush chalk paint powder!!  Have fun and be creative!!

Message center

I took an old window, the glass was cracked on one side and turned it into a message board.  I used the 1 cup size bag of 2 gals & a brush chalk paint powder and a sample size dark red paint to make the chalk board.  I then added chicken wire to the rest for messages, or postcards.  You can use it for pictures, the ideas are endless.

Another completed re-purposed item

With two coats of any color latex paint and 2 gals & a brush chalk paint powder you can turn an old dresser into a cute shabby chic dresser.  We added the scroll back to give it more charm.  You could even add sides and a front rail and make this a changing dresser!!

What's new in the workshop

Old chest of drawers from the 1950's-I think my parents had a set like this back in the day!!
The top was in pretty bad shape as you can see
The finished piece with a rubbed stain wax applied (we like Briwax) in light brown
The top of the chest-our chalk paint powder covered right over the damaged areas and again a stain wax was hand rubbed on the piece.  Be creative, experiment and have fun!!

Experiments in the workshop

I bought this little dresser at a moving sale.  It was missing it's hardware and needed a lot of love.
I think motor oil was spilled on top of the cabinet
And paint was splattered all over the piece.  I sanded the paint and oil off the cabinet.
I wanted to try one of the chalk paints to compare, so I got a sample size of CeCe Caldwell's paint.  The sample size has about 1/2 cup of paint and costs $9.00 for this little sample.
I painted one drawer with the sample paint.  I found the paint does not flow well as you are painting.  I use a foam brush when I paint furniture as I do not like brush strokes that you get when you paint with a paint brush.
I took the sample of the paint down to my local Home Depot and had them color match the paint to 1 quart of the Behr Premium Plus.  It matched perfectly.
I then pour 1 cup of paint (8 oz) into a plastic container.
I used our 2 gals & a brush chalk paint powder in the one cup size bag.  Emptied that into a measuring cup.
Following the directions you add 1 tablespoon water to the powder, mix into a paste and add that to your 1 cup of paint.  I painted two coats of CeCe Caldwell's paint on one drawer and the other drawer and cabinet were painted with our product.  I did paint a third coat on the CeCe drawer as I was not satisfied with the coverage.
This is the completed cabinet.  After the paint dried, I hand waxed it with two coats of Briwax in light brown and added new copper hardware.  You can use this for storing jewelry, scrapbooking materials, etc.  Just needs a price and it is ready to sell.  Just have fun and be creative.  The possibilities are endless!!
